The
Region is positioned to the North – West part of Greece and borders with
Albania and F.Y.R.O.M. It is consisted of the Prefectures of Grevena, Kastoria,
Kozani and Florina; its seat is Kozani, which is the capital of the homonymous
Prefecture.
West Macedonia is 9451 km2 in extent and occupies the 7.2 % of the country’s
total area. Basically, it is a mountainous area with the 82% of its ground
is covered by mountainous and semi–mountainous land.
The region has important natural resources like power minerals, ores, forests
(50% of the total area) pasturages and the country’s 65% surface water resources.
